Dealing With Gender Disappointment {My Real Story}

I've debated writing this since we found out what baby #2 is because every time I think about it, I feel like the worst mom in the history of the universe. I decided to swallow my pride and write my story because after speaking with other close friends and family members I realized that I wasn't alone, and I don't want you to feel alone if it is something that you have been going through as well. My intention by writing this is not to offend those who may not understand the topic or who are in the process of trying to conceive. My intention is to spread awareness that those who do deal with this are not alone and that it is perfectly natural.

This is a topic that is probably going to rub a lot of people the wrong way. You may get angry over this post, or you may completely understand and relate to it. I hope for the latter but regardless of the outcome I truly feel like gender disappointment is a topic that needs to be more out in the open.

When you find out you're pregnant, your first though is for a happy healthy baby, and the next is typically hoping for a specific gender. This isn't the case for everyone, but for a lot it is. And gender disappointment is a real thing.

This is my story.

Dropcam was developed by co-founders Greg Duffy and Aamir Virani after Greg's father desperately wanted to figure out which local dog was making a mess of his yard. He began hooking up IP camera's but was having trouble getting the system to work just right and that storing video on his hard drive wasn't an easy or secure solution. Greg was immediately interested in solving his dads dilemma and called his friend Aamir to talk through the problem. They began throwing around the idea around soon connected with tech pioneer Mitch Kapor who decided to fun the initial development which resulted in the launch of Dropcam in 2009. Now Dropcam is widely used around the country to "drop in" on their babies, pets, and even to catch unsuspecting thieves.

To me, there is nothing more important than the security of my family and having peace of mind when we are away from our home. Although we live in a safe neighborhood, you just never know what may happen when you are out and about, and being able to check up on things while you're away is an luxury that I feel every family should have. With Dropcam Pro as one of the most versatile and affordable Wi-Fi Video Monitoring System, every family can have the peace of mind they deserve whether they're checking in on their home, business, or a specific room of the house that has precious tiny humans sleeping in it! 

The first time I worked with Dropcam was exactly a year ago, for our first birthday event! I fell in love with their Dropcam HD and it is an item that I still use in my home pretty much daily. When I received our Dropcam Pro for review this year, I was pleasantly surprised to see that their packaging had changed, and although I thought their presentation with the Dropcam HD was nice, I loved the simplicity of the packaging with the Dropcam Pro. 

When you receive your Dropcam Pro, it comes with the camera itself, power cord and adapter, a mounting frame, and the hardware necessary to mount your Dropcam. 

The Dropcam Pro is approximately 4.5" X 3.15" X 3.15" and weighs approximately 5.7 ounces, but don't let it's size fool you! This little camera is has a 130 degree field of view, high power IR night vision, and an 8X digital zoom. While the camera is designed for indoor use only, it vibrantly shows you what you are monitoring and looks as though you were standing in the room rather than looking at it through your smart phone, tablet, or computer.

One key feature of the Dropcam that I absolutely love is the set up. I like to consider myself "somewhat tech savy" but when it comes to things like wireless IP addresses and stuff like that, I am pretty much a deer in the headlights. The Dropcam Pro (as well as the HD model) are a BREEZE to set up, I'm talking so easy my two year old could do it. Literally all you need to do is plug the USB cable from your Dropcam into your computer or laptop, and the Dropcam pretty much sets itself up!

In just six easy steps, your Dropcam will be set up and ready to be used so if you're on your way out of town, in need of a quick security camera at your business, or if you just want to get it set up, you will be done and ready to use your Dropcam in about 5 minutes.

Step 1. Plug in the camera and your computer with the USB cord (included with your Dropcam).
Step 2. Select your wireless network.
Step 3. Connect to your Wi-Fi
Step 4. Pretty much goes with Step 3., confirm your wireless connection.
Step 5. Unplug your camera from the computer, plug it into the power adapter then into the outlet near where you want your camera to be placed!
Step 6. Verify that your camera is turned on and get ready to "Drop In On What You Love"!

Since I mentioned that I have both the Dropcam Pro and the Dropcam HD I thought I would include a little comparison for those of you who are wondering what the difference is!

In terms of dimensions, these two cameras are exactly alike, but they do vary by 0.2 ounces and in several technical functionalities! The Dropcam Pro offers a 8X digital zoom while the Dropcam HD offers a 4X digital zoom, and the Dropcam Pro offers a 130 degree field of zoom whereas the Dropcam HD offers a 107 degree field of zoom. The last noticeable difference between these two cameras is the quality and brightness of your viewing. The Dropcam Pro offers your view to be more true to color whereas the Dropcam HD is a little more muted in color, however they both offer comparable clarity, sound, and night vision. 

Mr. Hunky and I decided to place our Dropcam Pro on the bookshelf that we have in our living room so that when we are away from the home we can drop in on the dogs and make sure that they're not causing a ruckus. We also love having the Dropcam because it sends us text notifications directly to my cell phone letting us know when there has been motion detected in the house. I love being able to pull up the Dropcam app to see what exactly made the camera detect motion whether it be a doggy moving around the living room, or them barking at the door because they heard a noise! 

Mr. Hunky and I can both agree that having a Dropcam in our home is the perfect addition to the family. Whether we're dropping in on the dogs while we're away, or Mr. Hunky is dropping in on us while he works a night shift; having the peace of mind that things are safe and secure at home is, in my opinion, worth any amount of money! Dropcam also offers cloud recording which is fantastic for if you plan on being away from your house for an extended period of time, are using your Dropcam for your business, or if you just want to be able to go back and watch the footage that was caught while you weren't checking your app. We highly recommend Dropcam to anyone who wants to "Drop In On What They Love"!

I love to be comfortable whether I'm working out, cleaning house, or just lounging around, in my house we pretty much live in our comfy clothes, which is why the Training Capri is perfect for me!  The Training Capri has a 4-way stretch flat elastic waist band, supportive seaming, slightly flared leg opening for increased athletic mobility, and is naturally odor resistant for extended wear.  They are 55% Organic Cotton, 35% Viscose from Bamboo, and 10% Elastane making them super soft!  One thing I noticed is that they actually stay put!  I do not constantly have to pull them up or adjust them at all, allowing me to concentrate on my workout!

The Helix Cami is also very comfortable and goes perfectly with the Training Capri!  It has 4-way stretch and supportive back seaming, a mid-impact shelf bra with Flowmesh insets for ventilation, and is naturally odor resistant for extended wear.  I love that the Helix Cami includes a shelf bra so you get the support you need, and it is such a cute shirt, I love the bright colored straps!

The Racerback Cross Tank is another great shirt for working out!  It is so soft it's almost like you are not wearing anything at all!  This tank is made of 55% Organic Cotton, 40% Bamboo Viscose, and 5% Elastane. With natural UPF 50+ protection and anti-odor technology for extended wear you can't go wrong.

The Black Headband is the perfect accessory for me to keep my bangs out of my face while I workout!  The headband is made of comfortable, soft bamboo fabric with no plastic or other hard inserts and is hypoallergenic.  It is 3.5" at the widest point and tappers to 1.5" for a comfortable and secure fit.  The headband is great for any hair type whether you want your hair up or down it will make a stylish fashion statement!

This is by far the softest and most comfortable fitness wear I have ever worn!  Since it is made of ultra-soft bamboo their fitness wear is like no other on earth, each item features the Four P's to thriving while being active: Athletic Performance, Odor Prevention, Skin Preservation, and Sun Protection!

Boba began when two parents decided to leave their hometown of Bolder, CO, and travel the world with their two kids in tow. They took off with only a few personal belongings, a few thousand dollars, two backpacks, two kids, and a dream. They wanted to live their lives and experience freedom together. Since my first opportunity working with Boba back in March of 2013, I instantly fell in love with the company, their message, and their products. I reviewed a Boba 3G carrier and all it took was one carry for me to instantly be hooked and ready to "hang up the towel" with the other carrier that I had. When I was offered to be apart of Boba's Ambassador team, I couldn't wait to accept. 

When the announcement of the Boba 4G was released several months back, I was excited and knew that I would have loved to reviewed it, but by then my little guy was already two years old and was at the point that he was more interested in walking than being carried. When I learned that I was pregnant again, I began making a list of things that I needed for my newest little one and the Boba 4G was at the top of that list. One of the biggest upgrades that the Boba 4G received was the inclusion of a removable infant insert to make wearing your newborn/infant in a carrier possible! I was over the moon when Boba wanted to partner up for the Birthday Bash and couldn't wait to receive the new Boba 4G to test out! 

I have had my eye on the Boba 4G in "Tweet" for quite some time so it was really no question of which print I was going to choose for the review - I just adore the bright colors and the cute birds on Tweet and love that it's completely gender neutral!

One of my favorite features of the Boba 4G is that it has hidden pockets! These pockets are located on the waistband of the carrier and are both perfect for stashing a few "mommy items" in while you're on the go with baby. The zipped pocket is a perfect fit for chapstick, cash, a credit card or two, and even a small pack of gum! The non zippered pocket is the perfect place to stash your phone, keys, or even a small coin purse!

The Boba 4G includes a hood that can be easily detached should you forgo its use, but it really is a fabulous edition to have for those who are nursing or if your little one falls asleep while you're carrying them! The hood adjusts to accommodate the height of your child and easily folds into a zippered storage compartment for a 'cleaner' look to the Boba Carrier while the hood is not in use.

One feature of the Boba Carrier that I absolutely adore is something that is far more beneficial for those carrying older babies or toddlers; the Stirrups. I cannot stress to you how great it is to have a place for your little ones feet to sit comfortably while they are being carried, especially if they are on your back. Little Mister always loved to put his feet int he stirrups and I loved that his feet weren't loose and swinging against me as we walked.

To secure the Boba Carrier to your body, there are two main buckles to adjust to insure a secure and comfortable fit. The upperback/shoulder strap is not only adjustable in width, but the height can also be adjusted by easily sliding the buckle up or down your back. Having the ability to slide the buckle makes it very easy to buckle yourself and tighten the straps yourself!

The second security buckle is the one that goes around your waist! It is significantly larger than the shoulder strap buckle and is an extremely thick and sturdy buckle. Both sides are adjustable so you can easily give the straps a tug once you have buckled it on to confirm a tight hold around your waist!

Now lets chat about the most exciting part of the Boba 4G! The Infant Insert!! The Infant Insert is designed to accommodate little ones from 7-15 pounds based off of two different sizes you can create simply by folding it! If you choose to leave the infant insert unfolded, it accommodates babies from 10-15 pounds giving them a little extra boost to see out of the carrier. If you fold the insert together (it snaps to create a secure seat), it can be used with little ones from 7 to 10 pounds by creating a small seat for them to sit on. Once your child surpasses the need to use the infant insert, you can easily and quickly remove it by unsnapping it from the carrier itself!

Since my newest addition is still 'baking in the oven' I enlisted the help of my friends The Carver's to model the Boba 4G with their son, Baby D. Baby D is about 11 pounds and sits comfortably on the infant insert while he hangs out with mommy or daddy in his Boba 4G! Whether they're hanging out at a friends house or out at exciting places such as the beach, Baby D is comfortable and content in his Boba 4G! We absolutely love our Boba 4G and I cannot wait to use it with Baby #2! Epiphanie Bags was created four years ago by a professional photographer, Malie Wilson. She created Epiphanie after realizing that there were no cute camera bags for women! She hated carrying around a separate (and unattractive) bag on photo shoots and would end up covering her camera with whatever article of clothing was nearby and sticking it in her purse. Realizing enough was enough, she launched Epiphanie in 2009 with a list of 10,000 other photographers that were anxious to get their hands on one of these fabulous camera bags.

When it comes to stylish bags, I like to think that I have a radar for them. Whether they be purses, totes, diaper bags, or camera bags, my heart does a little pitter patter whenever my eyes come into contact with one. 

My mom was blessed with some amazing photography skills and began exploring them when she was just a child. Luckily for me (and of course the community in which she lives) she turned her photography from a hobby into a small business a few years ago and started photographing portraits, newborns, weddings, and much more. When she started out, her camera was always lugged around in a hideous black camera bag and I couldn't help but roll my eyes every time she took it on a photo shoot. It literally pained me. When she discovered Epiphanie Camera Bags and introduced me to them, I was taken with how beautiful and stylish they were and I knew that my mother deserved at least one of their gorgeous bags. That Christmas, my dad and I went in together and bought her two! My lucky momma received a Lola and a Clover that year and she has loved them to pieces since! To be honest, I've always been pretty jealous of those beauties, I especially love the look of the Clover! 

Knowing that my mom now treasured her camera bags like I treasure my diaper bags, I was thrilled for the privilege to work with Epiphanie during the holidays on a review of their amazing Madison bag and my mom was over the moon when I surprised her with it! Knowing my moms love for her Epiphanie bags and my fondness of their fantastic company, I reached out again to see if they would like to be apart of our BIRTHDAY BASH so that I could give my lovely readers the chance to win one of their bags again, and I was giddy with excitement when I given the opportunity to review another beautiful bag. I shopped the website and found a bag that I knew my mom would love for Mother's Day - the Lyric bag in Brown!

First off, how gorgeous is this bag? The color is such a rich milk chocolate brown! What I really loved off first impression of this bag was that Lyric is an amazing size. It's not to big and the organization is just right! As simple as the design is, the braided texture of the shoulder strap and the tassels that hang form the front pockets give this bag a stylish bohemian feel, while the silver hardware adds just the right amount of 'flash' and class!

There are two zippered pockets located on the front of the Lyric bag which are the perfect size for small items such as your cell phone, keys, or even a pack of gum or breath mints. I love that they are zippered rather than magnetic or even a simple front flap because knowing from watching my mom so many times, photographers and moms alike are constantly on the move and positioning their bodies in different angles to get the perfect shot; the zipper allows them to have piece of mind that their valuables and belongings aren't going to fall from the pockets as they adjust angles!

The back of this bag also features a large zippered pocket that can easily hold a small tablet or planner, or whatever else you may need to bring with you! The back pocket is also a fabulous place to keep your wallet so that you don't risk scratching your camera if you're using this bag as both a camera bag and purse!

Being a mom I know that carrying options for any bag that I'm carrying is a must - you never know when you may need to switch from a shoulder bag to a messenger carry, or even a backpack! What I love about the Lyric bag is that Epiphanie has included a separate messenger strap so that you can easily change your bag from a shoulder bag to a messenger. The messenger strap has a comfortable shoulder pad which allows for easy carrying while on the go. This is a great option for us moms who may be carrying the bag while chasing a toddler at the park!

So lets get to the most important part of this bag! The inside camera organization! In true Epiphanie fashion, their bags are lined with a soft padded lining that protects your camera and its accessories while they are in your bag. There are three panels that can be easily moved around inside of the bag due to their Velcro siding. Having the panels be adjustable is something that my mom says that she absolutely loves because then she can position her camera comfortably and still adjust accordingly if she is bringing an extra lens. There is also an inside pocket which is perfect for holding extra memory cards batteries or battery packs, and even miscellaneous items like your sunglasses!

My mom couldn't be happier with the size and quality of her beautiful new Lyric bag! It holds everything that she needs to attend a photo shoot without having to bring any extra baggage such as her purse! She recently had a portrait shoot for a local insurance agent and packed everything she needed - her camera with lens, an extra lens, flash, batteries and battery pack, her cell phone, wallet, sunglasses, and keys! She said that the bag sat comfortably on her shoulder as she was with her client and she loved that as she adjusted her angles and the bag moved, she knew nothing would fall out since it was all zipped securely! She also mentioned that the size of the Lyric is perfect for bringing to family parties and social events where she may want to use her camera but would prefer not to carry a bag as large as her gorgeous Madison, Clover, or Lola. According to my momma, "Lyric is the perfect size for everyday needs! When I leave the house it doesn't even feel like I'm carrying a bag made for a camera since it's the same size as a purse I would normally carry, and I love the option of having my camera there if see the perfect opportunity for a photo".
