Pink Zebra Review & Giveaway

There's nothing that I like more than my house smelling delicious. Whether it's watermelon and strawberry scents in the summertime, or pumpkin and cinnamon around the holidays, I absolutely love going from room to room smelling the sweet aroma of the candles burning. But lets face it, candles and toddlers don't really mesh and can cause quiet the anxiety attack, so unless Baby A is asleep, I keep the candle burning at bay. Obviously my sons safety is my priority, but I can't help miss the smell of a candle burning during the day, so that then poses the question, what can I do to change that? Thanks to Pink Zebra, I can now have the sweet, delicious scents throughout the house, without the danger of a candle!

*I received four complimentary Jars of Sprinkles for review in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions.

Pink Zebra was created by Tom and Kelly Gaines, who after working for a candle manufacturer for over fifteen years, longed to pursue their dream of owning their own business and set off to create a fun, unique, high quality product that would embody their incredible journey in the candle industry.

When Pink Zebra Independent Consultant Jennifer Bowman got into contact with me, inquiring about teaming up to bring you all this fabulous giveaway, I had never heard of Pink Zebra and had no idea what "Sprinkles" were. I bugged Jennifer countless times asking questions and trying to get a feel for how they worked. Pink Zebra's Sprinkes are beads of soft soy wax and fragrance oils that are blended together at highly concentrated levels, delivering up to 50% more scent than a typical candle would.
I was so excited when she invited me to go pick out which scents I wanted to try. The variety of scents was incredible and I flip flopped my mind several times before I finally landed on the four scents that would soon fill my house with a delicious aroma. After extensively talking with Jennifer I decided to forgo getting any wicks or simmer pots to use with my Sprinkles, and instead I decided to get creative on what to use them for.

When the Sprinkles arrived on my door step, I could seriously smell them through the packaging and the shipping box that they arrived in. I couldn't believed the amazing scent that they put off, even before I took them out of their boxes! Playing off of their Pink Zebra name, the Sprinkles arrived in the cutest white boxes with pink zebra stripes! The first thing that came to mind when I saw the boxes was that they would make a fabulous gift for an expectant mother, or even a bachelorette! The box screams "sassy" and I loved it.

When I opened up the boxes I got a fabulous surprise of fun, witty little notes inside! Out of the four boxes of Sprinkles, I got three different notes inside reading "Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes", "Wrinkled is not one of the things I wanted to be when I grew up", and my absolute favorite, "The other day someone said I could make ice cubes out of leftover wine. I was confused..what is leftover wine?". Kudo's for Pink Zebra adding such a simple yet fun element to their packaging!

As I said above, Jennifer generously let me choose the four scents that I want, and honestly, I had to consult with her a few times before I made my final decision! Honestly, I probably drove her a little batty, but in the end it was soooo worth it because the scents I picked are PERFECT. I chose the Orange Dreamsicle, which literally smells exactly like a dreamsicle and reminds me of my childhood, the Green Tea & Lemongrass which is light and refreshing, perfect for using in the kitchen or bathroom, I {Love} Watermelon, which smells just like a watermelon Jolly Rancher candy (YUM), and Cake Batter, which of course smells just like yummy cake batter. My two favorite scents out of the four are Orange Dreamsicle and the I {Love} Watermelon, they are delicious and make me think that summertime is already here!

So what can you do with Sprinkles?

-Put them in cute jars around the house
-Put a wick within the middle of them and burn it down like a candle
-Put it into a Pink Zebra simmer pot and melt them down for intensified scent
-Put them into sachets and put them into your dresser drawers
-Put them into a sachet and put them in your car as an air freshener
-Put them in your vacuum for a yummy scent while you're cleaning house
-Sprinkle them in the bottom of your trash can
-Sprinkle them underneath of your pail liner in your cloth diaper pail (this helps a LOT)
-Even sprinkle them in kitty litter or other pet areas (they're nontoxic!)
-Mix and match to create new unique scents!
& Much More!

What did I do with my Sprinkles?

Okay, so I'll admit, I haven't been the most creative person lately, but I was looking forward to reusing some jars and leaving Sprinkles out all over my home. In Baby A's bathroom, I thought it was only fitting to reuse an old baby food jar and scent the room of Orange Dreamsicle. In our front room (which doubles as a play room) I used an old mason jar (previously used for honey) and put some of the I {Love} Watermelon out. In mine and Mr. Hunky's bathroom I used a small plate/bowl thing (sorry, not sure what to call it!!!) that I was using for bobby pins, and put out some of the Green Tea & Lemongrass, and in the kitchen I used another mason jar for some of the Cake Batter Sprinkles (not pictured). Every time I walk into one of the rooms where a jar of Sprinkles are, I am delighted to smell the scent and I love knowing that I'm not putting my house in danger with a flame burning!

As you can see, I could go on and on about how much I love the Sprinkles and how excited I am to of found this company. I highly recommend that you pick up some sprinkles for yourself and see what all of the fuss is about, I promise you will love them as much as I do!

5 Non-Toy Gift Ideas for Kids

When birthdays or holidays roll around, it's usually a safe bet that your kids are going to get a lot of toys. So if you're looking to give them gifts that won't get lost in the pile of toys they're sure to get from relatives and friends, here's a list of non-toy gifts that have 14-month old L's seal of approval (and that will work for kids who are younger and much older, too.) An added perk of these gifts is that they take up little or no space in your house.

Note: I'm including links for some of these. They're not necessarily products I endorse or have reviewed; they're just added to give suggestions for where you can find some of the gifts.

1. Bird Feeder
A friend in our neighborhood has a bird feeder outside of her playroom window, and the kids love watching the birds and squirrels that stop by, so I decided to get one for L with some money he got for his birthday. Ours hasn't attracted any squirrels yet, but we regularly see cardinals, blue jays, sparrows, mourning doves, a bunch of birds I can't name, and two ducks! L loves watching the birds (he thinks the ducks are especially hilarious.) Our play area windows extend down almost to the floor, so it's easy for L to look out and see the feeder. If your windows are higher, there are bird feeders that stick directly to the window with suction cups so that kids can see the birds even from below the window. (I found a suction cup window bird feeder for $3 at Big Lots last week.) For older kids, you can combine this with a bird book written especially for children (Amazon has a bunch of them here) so that they can identify the birds they see, or you can buy a bird feeder kit so that they can build and decorate it themselves (with adult help, of course.)

Bird feeder tip - Our feeder was up for a week without a single bird visiting it, so a friend suggested that I cover toilet paper rolls in peanut butter, roll them in bird seed, and then hang them in the tree near the feeder. Within 24 hours, our bird feeder was the new neighborhood hot spot for birds.

2. Play Rug
A play rug brightens up a play room or bedroom and will give kids more options for playing with the toys they already have. I've seen play rugs at Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot and Big Lots. You can find typical city or road style rugs, dollhouse rugs, maps of the United States, and even hopscotch rugs. You can get them as small as 1.5'x2' or large enough to cover a whole room. We found the 8'x10' Pottery Barn Kids rug that we use in our kitchen play area at our local Once Upon a Child store for only $48.

For now, it's mostly just nice that his play area is padded for when he falls (which happens quite a lot.) But when he gets older, he can drive toy cars on the roads and train tracks.

3. Family Photo Album
We don't have any family nearby, so I had been meaning to put some family pictures in an album for L so that he'd recognize his relatives when they come to visit, but I never quite got around to it. And then my mom made him this awesome book!
When I put the book on the floor to take a picture, he immediately ran  over to grab it.
You can see his shadow and his foot in the bottom picture.
Each page has a picture of one or more of his family members, and she wrote a cute rhyming story to go with the pictures. Included are pictures of L's grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and parents (that's Dan and me... obviously.) She printed each picture onto thick computer paper, put each page into a plastic page protector, and put them all in a three-ringed binder. L loves the book so much that I recently confessed to my mom that I've had to hide it a few times when L was demanding that I read it dozens of times per day. You could make this as simple as a cheap photo album filled with pictures, or you could write a cute story like my mom did.

4. Zoo Membership
We just bought a zoo membership for the first time this year, but we have friends whose kids get a zoo membership as a gift every year. It's educational and fun, and it gives you something to do when you all need to get out of the house for a while. If you want your child to have an actual gift to open, you can combine it with a book (purchased or homemade) of pictures of animals you'll see when you visit the zoo.

5. Books
This is a favorite in our house. L loves when I read to him, and I try to make it a point of buying him at least one book for every major holiday. Even kids who don't typically like books will often enjoy them if you buy high quality books with a subject that interests them. Some kids' books are poorly written or illustrated, and even my 14-month old will reject books that aren't good. If you need ideas for good children's books, check out Sandra BoyntonBarefoot Books, or Usborne Books. For toddlers and babies, books should have only a few words per page (one to two sentences is a good length) and simple pictures or they'll quickly lose interest. We have a great used bookstore (Ukazoo Books) in our town, and I've found board books that looked brand new for $1-2.

Sesame Gifts Giveaway {Bonus Giveaway to Celebrate You}

The Thrifty Nifty Mommy Blogger Network has decided that because we have such great, loyal readers, you deserve something special. So today we are Celebrating You one more time! Today with Sesame Gifts.

Sesame is a company that believes happiness comes from experiences, and they want to create great experiences for you in their themed gift boxes. I was recently given the opportunity to choose one of their gift boxes that I felt would be great with Mothers Day approaching.

Choosing the box....well that was the hard part. Sesame offers a variety of boxes, everything from something to welcoming a new baby to cocktail hour can be completed with these unique gifts. Since I was going for a "Mothers Day" box this narrowed my selection down some, but still which direction did I want to go? This is where Sesame really comes alive, they are catering to everyone's wants & desires. Do you want a relaxing evening soaking in the tub, or maybe some great teas to enjoy in the afternoon. The choice is yours! For me, I went with Breakfast in Bed, I love a nice hot breakfast and I love it even more when someone prepares it for me. :)

In the Breakfast in Bed box you will find everything you need for a yummy & cozy start to your day. A gourmet chocolate chip pancake/waffle mix, organic english breakfast tea, a ceramic mug with diffuser and lid, a cute little paper flower and a vase to put it in , a black and white damask napkin and a sweet frame.

Let me just say that we are HUGE pancake and waffle fans in our home, not just me , but the hubs and the kids too. That is our choice of breakfast very often, and the hubs or I always make them from scratch; yes my hubs is very handy in the kitchen. ;-) I have honestly never been a fan of box mix anything! However I was very excited to try out this mix, its all natural and doesn't have a laundry list of ingredients. Now I will be honest in saying that I didn't eat these in bed....nor did I end up relaxing while someone else made them. The hubs and I take turns sleeping in a little on Saturdays, and this weekend was his. So I got up with my youngest two kiddos (our oldest was with my parents) and I made up a batch of waffles. We love pancakes, but I was really in the mood for waffles...these were super easy to make, just add a little water and butter. One batch gave me just two big waffles, but they were delicious!!! My little guy loved them too, he kept saying "mmm.....cookie!!" , I guess they reminded him of a big chocolate chip cookie. :)

The little accessories that come in the Breakfast in Bed box make for such a beautiful setting. I think the paper flower is so cute and unique.

Lastly the box comes with a mug and some loose tea. Now, I am not a huge tea drinker, I am more of a coffee fan especially to get my morning started. Over the past 6 months or so I have really began to enjoy a nice cup of hot tea before bed. However loose tea just hasn't been my thing, I have tried a few different diffusers just to have some loose tea particles end up in my drink...and thats just not my "cup of tea" . So I was anxious to try out this ceramic mug with diffuser, let me just say WOW! This thing is incredible, not one little tea particle in my drink and the ceramic lid is wonderful for keeping my tea hot while steeping. The tea that comes with this set is incredible as well, it honestly may make the best cup of hot tea I have ever had! I am in love!!

I am loving this box, everything in it is just  a great way to start the day and I am extremely thrilled that I now have a nice mug to make some great tea with! Sesame has a great thing going on here, and this is a great gift idea! With Mothers Day quickly approaching you can head on over to Sesame and choose the box that will be best for your mom!

One of you will win the Breakfast in Bed box! You can gift this to your mom, or keep it for yourself! Please fill out the entry form below for your chance to win. This giveaway will end on Wednesday May 8th, Good Luck!

LD Products $100 Ink Giveaway AND Trip for Two to Hawaii Giveaway!!!!!

While I was a student I was constantly printing. Research, essays, images for projects, you name it, it was being printed out. I quickly learned that the cost of ink is ridiculous and I always dreaded that trip to the office supply store where I would be dropping a decent amount of money on ink. Seriously, it is no fun shopping for ink letting alone spending money on it! I thought that as a parent I would cut back on my ink spending but I haven't...between printing out coloring pages, receipts, and shipping labels, I still buy ink as often as I did in college. Thankfully I was introduced to LD Products and I knew I would be able to cut ink costs immensely!

LD Products has made customer satisfaction their number one goal and priority and they strive to have their customer service representatives knowledgeable and ready to assist you. They have been awarded Bizrate's Platinum Circle of Excellence for Customer Service for six years and are a Yahoo 5 Star certified merchant.

LD Products has a Platinum Certification of the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED program, which is the highest level of certification that can be achieved. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is rating system that expresses how efficiently a building is designed and operated. Being that LD Products is committed to the preservation of resources, they pride themselves on their Platinum ranking and are grateful to bring their customers not only amazing customer service, but helping to keep operating costs down and resources abundant.

LD Products is not only one of the largest online retailers of printer supplies, but they keep their ink costs low by remanufacturing inkjet cartridges. You may be wondering, what on Earth is a remanufactured inkjet cartridge? Well, what LD Products does is takes original manufacturer brand inkjet cartridges that have been through one cycle of service, and are then recharged. Each inkjet cartridge is thoroughly cleaned (along with the printhead nozzles) and the cartridge is then filled with the same ink formulation, checked for the correct internal pressure, inspected for any possible leaks, tested through an all electrical circuitry, and then are ran through an actual print test. If the cartridge passes all of LD Products standards, it is then qualified as remanufactured and sold to you at a fraction of the cost. For more information on remanufactured ink click here.

LD Products carries almost every type of ink for every single type of printer imaginable. To put it to the test I checked to see if my printers ink was available and sure enough it was! LD products is the perfect way to save yourself some money while helping to be eco-friendly at the same time!

DIY Spice Sachets

It is spring cleaning time in my house.  Part of this for me is going through my cupboards, cleaning them out and tossing anything past its expiration date.  In doing this I came across some spices that we have had for way too long.

Instead of throwing them out I decided to re-purpose them.  There are many things that one can do withold herbs and spices but this time I have decided to sachets.  This is a super easy project that anyone can do with materials that most of us already have around the house.

First, go through all of your old spices. Find the scents that you like best, and try to determine which ones will smell good together.  I had some cinnamon sticks, which I broke apart. (Careful ñ These things are tough; I cut my finger doing it!)

Next, you will need some cloth.  This could be scraps from a sewing project, an old t-shirt cut up into squares, or even an old sock.  You wonít want to use something that is too thick as the smell needs to be able to penetrate the fabric.  I had an old sash from one of my daughterís dresses that I cut up into squares.

Now all you have to do is place your herbs or spices in the middle of the cloth, bring the sides up, and tie them together. Wrapping paper ribbon works really well for this.

Voila!  You have a homemade, nice smelling sachet for free! Simply place them around in areas you want to spread the scent.

For another idea of how to use up your older spices, check out this idea.
