MCO's Holiday Gift Guide: Damhorst Toys

*I received a Small Name Puzzle from Damhorst Toys for review in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions*

Damhorst Toys began in 1971 when they manufactured the first ever personalized wooden name puzzle stool that was originally patterned off of a jigsaw puzzle. This family owned, American-made company wanted to give children a boost of hand eye coordination and the drive to master the proper placement of puzzle pieces. The company is now owned by Kris Damhorst and his sister Megin Cassimastis but was started by their parents Don and Carol. Between 1971 to 1998 Damhorst Toys was managed from their home and distributed into toy shops and brought to craft fairs by Carol.

The company moved from their home to a larger shop in 1998 and by 2004 Kris and Megin took over full time ownership of the company. The spirit of Don and Carol live on through the vision, creativity, and quality of the Damhorst Toys that are sold and distributed today. Perhaps the most wonderful thing about Damhorst Toys is that their sales are direct so when you are creating an order with Damhorst Toys you are speaking directly to Kris or Megin throughout the entire process. Damhorst Toys have two great features to their website where you can listen to Podcast episodes or read interesting blog posts that they create especially for their customers! Listen to the history of Damhorst Toys or read some fun posts pertaining to the baby industry! With Damhorst Toys you'll always find something new on their website!

When we reached out to Damhorst Toys for our gift guide, I couldn't wait to get a Name Puzzle Stool to review for Baby C; I knew he would love it! Every time we go to Alex's house it is the one toy of Little Misters that he continuously plays with over and over, and never seems to get bored with!  I chose to get Baby C's first name in primary colors knowing that this is something that he will be able to use for years to come.

The Small Name Puzzle Stool comes in 5 pieces (the top of the stool and 4 legs), it is extremely easy to put together, the metal brackets are already screwed in to the bottom of the stool for you, all that you have to do is screw the legs in to the metal brackets, which only takes one or two minutes to do.  Once the stool is assembled it stands 9 inches high, and the top of the stool is 9 x 12 inches.  On the Small Name Puzzle Stool you can have up to 8 letters, and the Large Name Puzzle Stool you can have up to 14 letters.  The stools come in wood, black, or white, and you can choose the letters to be either primary or pastel colors.  All Name Puzzle Stool finishes are water based and non-toxic.  This is a very sturdy and well made wooden stool that your child will be able to enjoy for years and years.

Another great option that Damhorst Toys offers is to have the bottom of the stool engraved, you can choose to have the baby's birth information, or any other saying you would like.  My kids mean the world to me, and they are my sunshine, I started singing the song You Are My Sunshine to my daughter when she was born and it would always calm her down and make her feel better, it has always had the same effect on Baby C, so I chose to put that on the bottom of Baby C's stool so that he will always have a little reminder that he is my sunshine.

The primary colors are very vibrant and eye catching, the wood is very thick (almost 2 inches) and not damaged easily, Baby C is all boy and can be a little rough on toys, so I am always looking for things that are well made and able to hold up with his sometimes rough play, he has played with this stool daily since we took it out of the box and isn't always gentle with it, and it still looks as good as it did when we opened it.

I'm sure you can tell by the smile on his face that he was so happy to have a Name Puzzle Stool of his own, he plays with this every day, whether it's just taking the letters out and trying to figure out how to put them back in, standing on the top of the stool and jumping off, or using it to reach the light switches or counters, he gets endless hours of fun.  We have also been using this to help teach him his colors and the letters in his name.

I think these stools are great and would recommend them as a gift for your son or daughter this holiday season! They are well made and something that will last your child for years, and even long enough for them to share with their children! The Name Puzzle Stool would make a great gift for any child on any occasion and is a wonderful keepsake for them as they grow.
