A lot of you may not know this but along with working on the blog and of course being a full time mommy, I also work two jobs from home as a means of making some extra income for our family. Things are always busy in my world but it was even crazier over the last two and a half weeks.
When the government shut down Mr. Hunky and I went into panic mode. We were one of the millions of families who were directly affected by the shut down and the looming fear of "when would we get our next paycheck" was a dark cloud over our heads. We were grumpy, we were nervous, we were mad. We had a tiny mouth to feed and two furry mouthes to feed along with our own, and although we had a small savings to live off of if it came to that, we had an even bigger thing to worry about.
We were just a couple short weeks away from closing escrow on our first house. How on Earth were we suppose to pay for closing costs when we didn't have a pay check coming in?! Would our VA loan be held up because of the shut down? Not sleeping well became a regular occurrence for those couple of weeks.
In the midst of all that, Little Mister was babbling up a storm and making us laugh daily with his might-as-well-be Chinese language. Although he says several real words, his overall conversation is still babbling. Mr. Hunky & I then decided we should start telling people that his first language is Chinese and that he's pretty much fluent in it. It gave our friends a good laugh when we said that which is what we all needed.
Thankfully the government reopened and we closed on our house early, without issues. We are SO excited and I cannot wait to move. Our gorgeous new house is literally only about 2-3 minutes away from Daedra which I am ecstatic about and our new neighborhood has a community pool which will be amazing for the summertime!
You may have noticed that I haven't had as many giveaways on the blog lately and I'd like to take a minute to explain why. I absolutely adore this blog and love to bring you guys awesome giveaways and the best product reviews around, but I am in desperate need of a break from them. When I started this blog my intentions were to have it be a place for me to express myself, write, share craft projects, DIYs, recipes, and anything else that came to mind. I feel like I have drastically strayed away from that over the last few months. Reviews and giveaways became my priority and I have been living my life based off of my blogging schedule and what reviews needed to be published. It wasn't until Little Mister started throwing temper tantrums every time he would see me on my computer did I realize that I had a problem. It was time to make a change both in my life and on my blog and that's when I decided to finalize the last reviews I had in hand and to start drafting non review/giveaway posts to share with you all. I am not longer blogging throughout the day and instead I am logging on when Little Mister is napping or asleep for the night. I have started to write again and not review.
So what's that mean for MCO? Absolutely nothing! You will just see fewer reviews written by me and more written by my lovely friend and coblogger Daedra, but you will still have lots of reviews and giveaways to check out on this blog! Along with those reviews and giveaways you will see other fun posts written by yours truly, you will see me doing more fun things on Facebook with you whether it be just interacting more or doing flash giveaways, and most importantly, you will see Mommys CRAFT Obsession getting back in touch with the craft side of this blog.
If you were around last year during the holiday's you will see just as many fun holiday posts (DIYs, Recipes, etc) and starting around Thanksgiving you will also see my deals & steals posts that will show you all the great deals I find on the web on great items for gifts.
I am so excited to be able to get back in touch with what my blog was originally created for while still having the ability to bring you awesome reviews and giveaways (thank Daedra for her help!). My goal in the next 6 months is for Mommys Craft Obsession to be the first blog you think of when you're wanting to find a new recipe to make, a craft project to do, or an amazing giveaway to enter.
Love you all, you're what makes this blog worth it!
Yay! I'm happy to hear you are going to start doing crafty things more. :)
ReplyDeleteWe had to deal with the stupid furlough too with my husband, so I can totally relate to the stress! Glad you were able to close on your house! We bought our first one last April and there is nothing better than the freedom of being able to do whatever you want with it!
Congratulations on your new house! Bummer that you guys had to go through some stressful times with the government throwing its own temper tantrum. :( Being a state employee, I wondered if I was going to be affected but ultimately I was not, very thankfully. So glad it didn't last too long for you guys (though I imagine any of it was certainly too long for you guys!)
ReplyDeleteI am actually very excited to see more crafts, DIY stuff, and recipes. I was just looking at your post about recipes in the blender for kids! :)
