Confession: I absolutely HATE working out.
Ironically, I am engaged to a man who dedicates his life to fitness. He literally works out 6 days a week, 1-3 hours per day. It's his everything.
And then there's me, his finance, who would rather hide than work out. AND I USE TO WORK AT A GYM! Yeah, that's bad right?
Mr. Hunky recently sat me down and expressed to me how much he wishes that I would work out and how he only wants to see me healthy on a fitness level (we already eat really healthy, for the most part). I always knew that fitness was important to him, but I never really understood how much he wanted it to be important to me too. And no, he doesn't think I'm fat nor did he ever use the term fat in our conversation. He made sure that I understood that he was talking to me in terms of health, not weight. I'll admit, it was really just going in one ear and out the other until he mentioned a single word that I fully comprehended. Baby A. If my health (in terms of fitness) wasn't going to be important to me, than it should at least be important for our son.
As a parent I want nothing more than to set a good example for my son and I want him to know that being healthy is a lifestyle choice, not something you're born with (for most). So that's when it clicked. If I wasn't going to push myself to get in shape for myself, I needed to do it for my son.
The first thing I thought about when I woke up this morning, was exercising. So I set out to do just that.
From recommendation of an aunt, I purchased the Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 video from Amazon's instant stream for $7.99. I'm not sure how ripped Jillian Michaels would get me in just 30 days but I figured any exercise was better than none, and since my work out routine happens is typically once every couple months, I figured I'd give it a shot.
The drawback. As much as I want to do this for myself and my son, I'm not confident in myself enough (at this point) to say that is the only motivation that I need. So I'm sharing my journey with you guys. The last thing I want to do is post pictures of my body on the web, but if I dedicate myself to share this journey with my readers, then I'm 99.9% sure that's the extra push I'll need to stick to it.
My goal in this journey is not to lose a bunch of weight, but to tone up. I've never had a "tight" body, I've always had love handles, and I've always had a little bit of tummy flab, and you know what, I've always been comfortable in my skin which is the most important thing. But it's time to start exercising, I want to be around to see my great grandkids one day! =]
Every Tuesday and Friday for the next four weeks I am going to share with you my progress. Once I've completed the 30 days then we'll see if this Ripped in 30 DVD really worked and how well it worked.
Am I ready for this?! Here we go!

I am doing her 30 Day Shred. Started it again today! I wish you all the luck!
ReplyDeleteHow do you like it? I was going to do that one but amazon wanted me to pay per episode instead of for the full video! Hoping for results! Good luck to you as well :)
DeleteI want to point out that it takes about 30 days to set a new habit. So her video should be great just in the fact that you hopefully will do it every day for the next 30 days (though I always hear how important it is to take one day off a week to rest.) But keep in mind that it's not a habit until you get past this first month, then every day will start getting easier until you're sitting there at your 'exercise time' and feeling twitchy because you feel like you've GOT to exercise... Good luck! Don't give up, the first 30 days is the worst!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck! I need to do this also!
ReplyDeletegood luck! sometimes opposites do attract ;) I need to do the same (well want to) I dont want to loose a ton of weight but more tone and tighten what I have.
