Celebrate You with So Tweet Fabrics

Today we're celebrating you by bringing out that inner seamstress (or aspiring seamstress) and giving you a fun and relaxing project to create! I did break the rules of the event with this review/giveaway because once you're done with the end product, you will most likely give it to your child, but hey, the time that you spend on it will be relaxing and all about YOU!

I'm not very good at sewing, I'm still learning everything, and I have only done a handful of projects, but I was excited to work with So Tweet Fabrics and check out one of their beautiful Baby Blanket Kits! So far my time with the sewing machine has been extremely enjoyable and although I am no where close to being a master seamstress, I still have fun and I love that I am able to spend that time to myself while making something that I will use! It's a great feeling.

*I received a complimentary Baby Blanket Kit for review in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions*

Shelly, the owner of So Tweet Fabrics, lives in Brunswick, Georgia with her husband and two little princesses. At the age of 6, Shelly was lucky enough to have both of her grandmothers teach her the ins and outs of sewing and encouraged her to pursue her creative outlet. She started creating baby blankets when her girls were young with the idea of creating a blanket that would grow with their child from infant to toddler in designs that would always been fun and beautiful. Shelley started her first business venture called Baby Beanzy where she sells her sewing creations of baby blankets and quilts, burp cloths, bibs, car seat harness covers, and much more! So Tweet Fabrics was created in September of 2012 to give you the cutest variety of fabrics, blanket kits, PDF Patterns, & More!

So Tweet Fabrics generously sent me one of their Baby Blanket kits for review!
I was able to choose which blanket kit I liked best to make for Baby A. I was excited that I would be checking out a blanket kit because it included everything I needed (with exception of the sewing machine and thread!) to get started. So Tweet Fabric includes two pieces of fabric, one minky, one cotton, as well as a PDF Pattern sent right to your email for you to use while you're creating your blanket! I chose a super cute elephant fabric with lime green minky for Baby A's new blankie! So Tweet Fabrics has over 65 minky baby blanket kits for you to chose form for your little guy or gal (and let me just say, they're ADORABLE).

Before I got started on my sewing project I needed to add thread to my bobbin so I started off by doing that. I used white thread (ignore the blue in the photo below, it was removed!), although the instructions on the pattern have you sew your blanket inside out so the stitches won't show, you do have to topstitch a small portion and I thought that white would look the best against the patterned elephant side.

I first started by trimming the both fabrics so that they would be the exact same size, then I pinned the fabrics together (having the sides of the fabric intended for the outsides of the blanket facing in), leaving my pins approximately 1-2 inches apart.

Following the instructions of So Tweet Fabrics,  I left an opening so that I could flip my blanket right side out when I was finished sewing up the sides. My only regret during this step is leaving the opening at the top, I should have thought it out better and left it at the bottom so that the top stitching was less noticeable!

When I was finished with the blanket I laid it out over Baby A's changing table so that I could get a good look at it! As I said previously, I am not a master seamstress, and I quickly learned that working with minky is a challenge, but I think I did pretty darn good for a newbie!

Baby A loves his new blankie and happily relaxed with it while watching some Mickey Mouse on the couch!

So Tweet Fabrics made it so easy for a beginning sewer to make a gorgeous blanket! What I love most about So Tweet Fabrics is when you purchase one of their Baby Blanket Kits you're not just purchasing the ready-to-go fabric, but you're also getting a full PDF Pattern/Instruction for how to go about making your new blanket. The instructions even included some really helpful tips on working with Minky since it's a tough fabric to work with due to how soft it is (makes it really easy to slip or stretch). Being a beginner, my blanket wasn't perfect but honestly, who cares? I had fun while making it and I was able to give myself some ME time while Baby A napped. It was a win win!

So Tweet Fabrics offers a huge variety of gorgeous and unique fabrics that you most likely won't be able to find in stores!
