Bunny's Fluffy Bum Review & Giveaway

As you enter into the world of cloth diapers, prepare yourself, there is a lot to learn. I've been cloth diapering my son for almost a year now and I am still learning. One puddle that I have yet to jump into is the realm of Soakers and Longies, but thanks to Bunny's Fluffy Bum, I now have the opportunity to dip my toes in the water and travel down a new path of cloth diapering that I have yet to discover.

I had heard the terms "Soakers" and "Longies" a few times over the course of cloth diapering but I really had no idea what they were, what they did, or how to use them properly. Feeling like I had a good stash of cloth diapers, I never really took the time to learn. I "met" Nicole, Bunny's Fluffy Bum's shop owner, a few months back when we participated in giveaway together. We teamed up to promote each other's venture and I had the opportunity to ask her questions and learn about what she did, which of course was make soakers and longies.

What are Soakers and Longies? Soakers and Longies are fleece (or sometimes wool) diaper covers that you use over prefolds. Soakers are covers that look like briefs for babies that your little one will wear under their clothes and Longies are long pants to be worn as pants. Because they are made of fleece, they will naturally repel the wetness and keep your little ones clothes and bedding dry.

Bunny's Fluffy Bum generously gave me the choice between testing out a pair of Longies or a Soaker and I decided to go ahead and choose a soaker since at night Baby A wears sleepers as oppose to two piece sets so I knew that the Soaker would get more use out of it. When I opened my package from Bunny's Fluffy Bum I was really excited to get my hands on a Soaker for the first time. The fleece was incredibly soft and cozy, yet not to heavy where Baby A would get to warm or uncomfortable while he slept.

The waist and leg holes are thicker to prevent leaks and keep the Soaker snugly on your child. As always do with review products, I inspected the Soaker both before and after I washed it, tugged on seams, checked for holes, and I can honestly say that the quality of this Soaker is fantastic. Not a single seam became loose nor did the fleece shrink!

Looking down into the Soaker

I tested the Soaker three separate times using a couple of different types of Cloth Diaper methods, I was pleased to find that I only needed to wash the Soaker once within those three trials, and that was when I did not use a diaper cover between the prefold and the fleece.

I tested out the Soaker during the early morning with a prefold, fleece liner, and a Flip diaper cover. Baby A has been drinking a lot of water since last week when we were all hit with the stomach flu. Although I of course gave him lots of fluids while he was sick, that bug took a lot out of all of us and he has been making up for lost time with chugging water. Because of his camel like behavior my sweet baby boy has been leaking out of all of his diapers. It was no surprise that when I went to change his diaper not long after I put it on him, that the prefold was completely soaked and the Flip cover was wet. I was so excited to find that the Soaker was not we at all and his sleeper (we were having a lazy day) was completely dry!

The second test was using a Flip diaper cover and a Flip insert with the Soaker on the outside. To my joy, it was the same situation as said above, the liner was soaked, the diaper cover was damp, the Soaker and his sleeper was dry!

The last test that I did with the Soaker was by using the prefold and fleece liner with good old fashioned diaper pins. I was surprised at how well the Soaker kept my sons sleeper dry considering there wasn't any sort of barrier between the prefold and the Soaker. However it wasn't long before I needed to change Baby A's diaper to avoid getting his sleeper wet.

Overall I really loved the Soaker and I think that it is a fantastic method to cloth diapering and a must have if your child is a heavy wetter. The quality of Soakers that Bunny's Fluffy Bum makes is wonderful and will last you throughout the span of your child's time in diapers.

  9. Thank you for sharing your experience with the fleece soaker! I have an interest in trying them but wasn't sure how well they'd work. I wonder if any fleece (store-bought) pants would work?
