Are you looking for ways to keep your family eating healthy and getting the vitamins and nutrients that they need? If your child is anything like mine, they're a picky eater. Baby A and I constantly battle on food, the healthier it is, the more he doesn't want to eat it and it drives me crazy. I try to feed my family as healthy as possible but at times it just doesn't happen. When Kretschmer's Wheat Germ offered to let me review their product, I jumped on the chance. I was excited to add this into Baby A's diet, and help me feel better about his picky choices of food!
What is Wheat Germ? Well, until I was asked to do this review I had never heard of it and had no idea what it was, but the more I researched it, the more I wanted to try it out. Wheat germ is the reproductive wheat kernel that germinates and produces wheat grass. It is extremely high in protein, vitamin E, folic acids (vitamin B), fiber, and complex carbs. When added to foods it gives a very subtle, some what nutty taste, although in most foods you cannot taste it over the flavor of the main dish. Wheat germ is perfect for atheletes, pregnant women, children, and anyone else who wants an extra boost of nutrients packed into their meal. According to Momtastic Wholesome Baby Food, by adding just one tablespoon of wheat germ into your food you will be in-taking approximately 4 grams of protein, 6% iron, 20% vitamin E, 20% folic acid, and 10% Thiamin.
Kretschmer generously sent me four full value coupons to go and grab two wheat germs (one of each type; original and honey crunch) and two Dannon Oikos Greek Yogurts to mix the Wheat Germ in! I wasn't really sure where to go and redeem my coupons for the wheat germ so I used the store locator on Kretschmer's website and was able to find two grocers in my community that sold the Wheat Germ. Grocery shopping seems to be an all day event for me and Baby A, so I planned to go pick up our Wheat Germ after I stopped at Walmart. Just for fun, I decided to peak my head into the cereal aisle to see if they happened to have it, and they did! I was so excited that I wouldn't have to make an extra stop! I grabbed one in each flavor as well as two yogurts and made my way to the check out line.
I will admit I was a little nervous to put the wheat germ into the yogurt (I'm a big wuss when it comes to trying new foods), but I was pleasantly surprised when took that first bite and only tasted the flavor of the yogurt! Confession: I still put sprinkles in my yogurt. Yes, I like to travel back to my childhood and mix in the rainbow sprinkles. When I mixed the Wheat Germ into my yogurt, it gave my yogurt the same consistency as adding sprinkles, which naturally I loved. I chose to mix in my strawberry Greek yogurt with the Honey Crunch Wheat Germ to give it a little bit of an extra taste. It was delicious! As soon as Baby A saw that I was eating he toddled over to me with his mouth wide open for a bite. Well, he ended up eating the entire yogurt! So much for momma's snack.
These two go together like PB & J.

You can put wheat germ in literally anything. You can cook with it, sprinkle it on fruit, veggies, pasta, put it in a smoothie, whatever you want! Although putting it into my yogurt has been mine and Baby A's preference, I have also used Wheat Germ in my chocolate chip cookies, fried chicken, and even in my pasta sauce! The best part, Mr. Hunky hasn't even noticed! What I love the most about Kreschmer's Wheat Germ is that I feel confident now that Baby A is getting the nutrients that he needs. I mentioned previously on the blog that Baby A was driving me nutty and hardly eating a thing! All he wants are frozen chicken nuggets, yogurts, and snacks. Great balanced diet right? Thanks to the Wheat Germ, when Baby A refuses all other foods at least I know that he is still getting vitamins and nutrients in the food that he will eat. I also feel great about the fact that I am getting that extra boost as well. I eat relatively healthy, but we all have our moments. Mr. Hunky, well, he's the king of healthy (okay not really but he strives to be) so he doesn't need it, but I feel good when I sneak it into his foods. My family's health is extremely important to me and now that I've discovered Ketschmer's Wheat Germ I feel confident even when feeding them foods that may not be as ideal (like cookies!!). I highly recommend that you go pick up a bottle of Wheat Germ and see how it works for your family! Just remember to refrigerate it after opening!
