The Inside Story Pt 1

It has been a while since I have written to you about my life. Heck, most of you probably don't even know really what goes on in the life of MCO! What I'd like to do for you today is re-introduce myself, my family, and my crazy life as a blogger.

Hi! I'm Alex and as you already know, I am the author of the blog Mommys Craft Obsession. I'm 22 years old *GASP* going on 32 because I don't feel like I'm in my early twenties. Although I went through the motions of high school, and some college, I never really fully embraced my youthful time (yes I know, I'm still very young) and took advantage of experimentation and partying. Alcohol and drugs were never my scene and although I loved hanging out with my friends, I preferred a good book over a raging party. I guess you can say that my mom really had a lot to do with that, she kept me on a tight leash (or so I thought), and although it drove me batty back then, I am secretly thanking her now (but don't tell her that....mom...if you're reading this, I'm fibbing...okay okay, you win, THANK YOU).  College was fun but again I never partied or did anything too crazy. Of course I had my nights where I had fun and stayed out all night and what not, but it never really was me. When I was in my final semester before I achieved my Associates Degree, I sat down in the speech class that I had put off for as long as possible. Looking around the class I knew it was going to be horrible. No familiar faces, no friends, and I would have to talk in front of these people. Fantastic. A few minutes after the class started a girl walked in that I had known from high school so it was great to have at least one person that I knew although I remembered her from high school as the girl who was always skipping classes! When the professor announced that we would be playing ice breaker games for the first class I died inside. I'm not shy, but I absolutely hate being forced to get to know someone. You know what I mean? Let me step out of my comfort zone when I'm ready to, don't force me. One of the ice breaker games was to run around the class room in a circle and not get touched by the people who were chasing you. Essentially it was tag but in order for you to be 'safe' you had to have your arms linked with at least two other people. Naturally the girl I knew from high school and I were stuck together like glue making it easy for us to just grab onto one other person and be safe. Just a little while into the game I randomly linked arms with a guy who I only saw out of the corner of my eye since I was about to get touched by the bad person and be out of the game. When I looked at the arm I was linked with, all I saw was tattoos. If you were to tell me that the guy that I had just linked arms with would be the father of my child and my fiancĂ© I would have though you were on drugs. Nothing could have prepared me for the relationship that was about to the ground running.

Mr. Hunky and I had our first date about a week after the class started. It was his birthday and I took him out to lunch at a sandwich shop called Mr. Pickles. Being that it was his birthday, I decided to be nice and pay for the lunch. I should probably mention that on our first date a good friend of mine came to be the third wheel per my request. Hey, ya never know, Mr. Hunky could have ended up being a serial killer. Thankfully he wasn't!

Lets fast forward to September of 2010, just nine months after our first date, Mr. Hunky accompanied me and my family to the amazing island of Oahu. Hawaii was absolutely gorgeous and I was so blessed to have spent that amazing time with the people who I cared about the most. During our stay in Hawaii Mr. Hunky took a big leap and asked me to take our relationship to the next level and move in with him shortly after we arrived back home. Of course, I accepted, and by October we had found our first home together (a one bedroom, one bathroom townhouse), and started our new life.

It wasn't long before we conceived our gorgeous son, Baby A, who was born that following September. I arrived at the hospital at 8pm on September 21st for my induction and after a painless 12 hour labor (thank you epidural), I then endured a 3 1/2 hour, unmediacated, vaginal childbirth. The doctor was literally about two minutes away from taking me to C-Section when my little mister arrived at 9:31pm September 22nd. My 7 pound, 19 1/2 inch bundle of joy.

A few months later, Mr. Hunky proposed to me on the beach on December 15th, while I sat on a large piece of drift wood holding our son. It was perfect.

Here's where life gets a little rocky. Mr. Hunky was offered a job in November that required six months of job training in another state. He would have weekends off but it wouldn't be enough time to come home and be with us. The job also required us to move from our hometowns in California, to a brand new city in Arizona where we knew no one. When we weighed our pros and cons we realized that this job really was the answer to our prayers. Although Mr. Hunky would be gone for six months without seeing us, the new job allowed us to live in a house rather than an apartment, have me stay home with Baby A rather than having to put him into a child care facility while I worked, and it allowed us a fresh start. We were both ready to leave our home towns, although my idea of leaving was a couple hours drive at most...not almost eighteen. I quickly learned that when you have a child, you have to sacrifice to make sure that they have the best life you are able to give them, and there was no doubt in my mind that I would go to any lengths to make sure my little boy has everything he needs.

The concept of Mommys Craft Obsession honestly was thrown together on a whim. I literally woke up one morning and said to myself "I should create a blog", and after a few hours of brainstorming, that's exactly what I did. Mommys Craft Obsession was started on May 21st as a way for me to express myself, keep track of recipes that I liked, and to have family and friends stay updated with my life when we moved to Arizona. To say that MCO was extremely rough in the beginning was an understatement- I didn't know the first thing about blogging! I'm so glad to say that I was able to pick it up quickly otherwise MCO wouldn't be what it is today!

We packed up and hit the road on May 28th around 8pm, drove all night, making minimal stops, and arrived to our new home on May 29th. I had found our house and rented it blindly, praying that all would be okay when we arrived. I won't bore you with the drama that unfolded when we arrived (so many issues) but I will tell you that the transition into Arizona was an easy one....until my mommy left. When my mom and dad had to go home to CA I was devastated and cried on and off for a few days. Before our giant move I had practically seen my mom every single day of my life and I wasn't quite sure how I would function without her. Thankfully with todays technology we are able to FaceTime pretty much daily and we talk about 2-3 times a day. I know, I know, thats a LOT. Probably more than most people talk to their mothers but what can I say? I'm a momma's girl.

    2. Also, Arizona doesn't sound great. I moved from the SF bay area in 2009, and I have been in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada since. It sucks enough here that I'm moving back by the end of the year :P.
